Rainy Day Activities
Believe it or not, Disney does not control the weather and it can, and does, rain in Central Florida predominantly in the Summer months. Most Summer thunder-bumpers haul in from Tampa, deposit their contents in the Orlando area in a deluge and, within the hour, the blue skies are back and the puffy white clouds are again clipping across the sky.
That said, from time to time, the Orlando area can catch the edge of a depression and you can get a day of rain. So, what are the options?
-
Sit and sulk in your room and see who cracks first, Mom or Dad? Not recommended.
-
Take the opportunity to go from hotel to hotel to see the other resorts and what they have to offer in the way of ambience, shops, restaurants etc.
-
Brave it out, get a poncho and head for the parks. The parks will be not-surprisingly empty and a lot of the rides are inside anyway. The only caveat is lightning; you want to stay under cover when that's around and Orlando is the lightning capital of the world.
-
Take a day to explore DisneyQuest. It is not cheap but it is very good for keeping everyone from 5 to 75 busy for a day.
-
Get off-property and go shopping at one of the large Orlando shopping malls.
-
Take a day to mess around at the pool. If you are already wet, it's hardly going to ruin your day to get even wetter. Same caveat with #3. The pools and the water parks do get shut down when the 50,000 volt light show makes an appearance.
-
Take a day at the AMC Theater 24 in DTD West End to catch up on the movies you haven't seen.
There are lots of ways to turn a gray day into a fun day. Check with the Guest Services folks in your resort; they are full of good ideas.
