Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
Location: Tomorrowland
To Infinity... and Beyond... is the destination awaiting guests boarding one of the Magic Kingdom’s newest rides, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This attraction, based on Disney’s all time favorite space hero Buzz Lightyear of Toy Story fame, is suitable for riders of all ages.
Opening in October of 1998, guests queue through the Star Command Center on their way to board their XP-37 Space Cruiser. Here you will take off on an exciting, interactive adventure to the Gamma Quadrant to take on Evil Emperor Zurg, and save the world’s crystollic fusion cell supply (also known as batteries). Zurg is on a mission to steal all toys’ batteries and use them to fuel his ultimate weapon of destruction.
As you make your way through the Gamma Quadrant aboard your slow-moving space cruiser, you will be treated to 10 whimsically decorated, interactive scenes. Your space cruiser, with enough room for 2 adult occupants, is themed as a vibrantly colored wind-up toy. Equipped with twin laser guns and a joystick capable of spinning the vehicle 360 degrees, each passenger shoots at targets above, behind, and to either side of the vehicle in an attempt to save the universe and collect as many points as possible. Be sure to blast the orange-colored Emperor Zurg insignias scattered throughout the ride. Remember, the harder targets earn you the most points.
As you hit a variety of targets, a changeable display of special animation, sound and lighting effects will display. Amidst the gigantic robots, strange planets and flying saucers, Zurg lurks, but inevitably is captured as Buzz himself joins the action. Zurg’s secret weapon is then blown apart by Buzz’s laser, and squeaky toy Martians collect its shattered pieces.
Each space ranger’s score is tallied electronically as you hit your targets and displayed on an LED screen built into the ride vehicle’s dash panel. As the ride ends, and your mission is complete, you can compare your score with the mission profile chart posted at the end of the ride and determine your space ranger rank.
The slow movement of this ride makes it appropriate for all ages. In addition, this is a FastPass attraction, allowing you to fit in more than one trip to infinity during your day at the Magic Kingdom.
