Living With the Land Attraction
Located in Future World in Epcot, the "Living with the Land" ride can be found on the first floor of the Land Pavilion. This 13-½ minute ride explores how we use the greatest natural resource of all, our land, in our daily lives. It offers guests a stunning display of environments from the prairie to the rainforest, and educates visitors on the importance of using our land with as little harm and as little waste of it as possible. It will explore new ways to use our environment, with scientific research being done to help preserve and conserve, and use other available natural resources to grow and harbor plants and food in many unusual circumstances.
Once you wind through the queue line you will board a canvas covered boat which takes you through many different types of environment. You will wind your way, via waterway, through a raining tropical rainforest, the expansive, dusty prairie, and the family farm of the Midwest. As you make your way through each encounter your guide will give you a narration on ways you can help preserve, conserve and live in harmony with the land and the environment.
Once you wind your way through the examples of our earth's environments you make your way to the second segment of this ride, a plant research facility and greenhouse. Here you will learn of the current research projects being done which allow scientists to grow plants without the aid of soil, grow plants in small and therefore limited areas, and the ways we are developing new crops which may someday grace your dinner plate. As you make your way through this very interesting part of the tour your guide will explain to you the crops being grown and of current projects taking place within the facility. In this area of the tour you will also pass by a fish hatchery where further research is taking place to grow these kinds of creatures in a controlled environment. You will find that many of the items grown on this indoor farm are used in the many restaurants of Walt Disney World.
This is a very relaxing ride and is easily handicap accessible. It all takes place indoors, so the refreshing air conditioning is a welcome break in the Florida heat. One might opt to do this ride and visit the Sunshine Seasons Food Fair, either before or after, for a refreshing drink, meal or snack. An extremely interesting ride, it is also a FastPass attraction.
