Primeval Whirl

Location: DinoLand U.S.A.

The Primeval Whirl is a roller coaster that Disney has put its own spin on -- literally! For in addition to riding the rails through curves and drops, your ride vehicle (which seats four) spins while you are negotiating certain portions of the track. Located in the Dinorama section of the Animal Kingdom, this attraction follows suit with the attraction's campy 50's traveling carnival theme. There are two tracks, which are roughly equivalent to each other. There's not a significant difference in ride experience between the two. However, the dual loading areas are successful in keeping the queue moving relatively quickly. The basic premise is that you are boarding a time machine that might have been constructed from old 50's-era junk: transistor radio, hubcaps, light bulbs, and the like. The theming on the ride itself is pretty limited, with just a few two-dimensional cutouts of dinosaurs on the superstructure. There is a height restriction of 48 inches (122cm) which is the highest in the Animal Kingdom and among the highest in all of Walt Disney World.
